The Head Coach

In the Royal Air Force, John rose to the highest rank, becoming a member of the Air Force Board. At Jaguar Racing John was Operations Director, also the Director of Strategy for Formula 1 within Ford’s Premier Performance Division. Whilst at Rolls-Royce, he was the director for a large-scale industrial regeneration project. Experience of motivating people through effective leadership to achieve optimum performance within a fixed budget is the factor that underpins his coaching capabilities. He is a qualified coach and is a member of the CEO National Coaching Register.

Sir John says: “When I look back on my career, I now realise how much more effective I would have been, especially in my more senior appointments, had there been someone there to hold up a mirror to my decision making and my relationships. Everyone, however able, however eminent, can benefit from help. Indeed, the more senior is your position, the less inclined others are to tell you the truth, and the more isolated you can become. A good coach, especially one who has personal experience of this situation, can restore perspective.”
